SENIORS NEWS 27th May 2012 ROUND 7 - MATCH REPORTS SENIORS Report to follow. RESERVES The reserves were 2-0 down before they could blink and were forced to play catch up from then on. Dimi was classy in midfield but had little support as the Falcons defence was under continuous pressure. Even though they stemmed the bleeding, they conceded a third just before half time and went in 3-0 down at the half. The second half was an improvement as the Falcons could easily have scored a couple of goals but in pushing forward left themselves open for another three late goals to go down 6=0. The score doesn't reflect the effort put in by the boys but Essendon were just a better side and the result even though not pretty should be taken in the context of the gulf in class in the squads. Better players were Dimi, Rob in goal and Joey D who tried his best to combat waves of Essendon attacks. JUNIOR NEWS 27th May 2012 ROUND 7 GAMES: Sunday 27th May: U9 Green - vs West Preston Report to follow. U9 Blue - vs Whittlesea The young Falcons welcomed back Oscar from his US trip this week, Vs Whittlesea U9s. The boys and girls of Whittlesea proved a stubborn defence against constant pressure from the Falcons until halfway through the half. The Whittlesea keepers kick out went straight to Luca and with his first touch placed the ball back past the keeper from about 12 meters out. A 2nd quickly followed from Travis and it stayed that way until the turn. The 2nd half proved more fruitful for the boys running in another 6 goals. The highlight being a Xavier chip back to the penalty spot over the last defender and a goal taken on the full volley by Travis. A good performance from all the boys. Best on the day was Xavier with 3 goals, Luca with his best performance of the season and a word for Callum again improving with each game as his focus gets better. Well done to all. A fine 8-0 win and only 1 shot from the opposition. U12's - vs Banyule The U12s boys went into this Round 7 game without 4 players due to confirmation duties. Promoted from the U9s was Daniel, Liam and Sebastian who were going to be asked to perform above expectations this week. To compound the situation, James pulled out on the morning of the game with an illness so the Falcons boys went into battle with only 10 players. They began well and held their structure fantastically. Sebastian played a lone hand up front sometimes battling against 3 or 4 defenders. He was supported as much as possible by Josh and Jack who ran themselves to exhaustion. Sebastian raced away down the wing and was able to get a shot off which forced the Banyule keeper into a smart save. Jack did likewise as his left foot shot from the angle nearly opened the scoring. Defensively, Edan was having his best game for the club and he was ably supported by Christian, Nathan and Nicholas. The opposition did not trouble the Falcons too much and whatever they managed to do was thwarted by Mark in goal who was superb. Then just before half time the Falcons were down to 9 as Josh got injured and was forced to come off. They were unable to plug any more gaps and finally Banyule picked a hole in the Falcons defence and went in to score one on one with the keeper. The second half was much the same. Banyule had a few shots but Mark saved well. The Falcons continued to stay compact and had a few chances namely to Sebastian and Jack. With 10 minutes left the Falcons threw caution to the wind and pushed Christian forward which nearly worked as he conjured 2 chances to score. Unfortunately the Banyule keeper was up to the task and kept them out. The final whistle signalled a 1-0 loss but a huge victory in the eyes of everyone but the scoreboard. Special mention to Josh who came back on even though not 100% and Jack who held the midfield together working tirelessly. Extra special mentions to Edan who continues to improve and Mark for a gutsy and classy effort in goal. You won't lose many more guys..guarenteed!! The project will go to tender in the near future with a potential commencement time late in 2012 (depending on the successful contractor's availability). The project is also dependent on contributions by our club and Holy Trinity ($50k) and Sport and Recreation Victoria ($100k). No word as yet from SRV but we have received positive feedback and a request for further detailed costings (which Council has provided). We are very optimistic but will need to wait and see whether we are ultimately successful with the SRV funding. Unfortunately SRV do not provide time lines as to when applicants will be advised of their success or otherwise. There will also be lighting improvements made at Hayes Park in the near future. Darebin Council's Major Projects team are firming up works scheduling and scope of works with the lighting contractor. At this stage it looks as though an additional 2 poles will be installed. We will provide further updates when more information becomes available.
