SENIOR NEWS 22nd May 2013 SENIORS: The Falcons were at home to North City Wolves last week looking for their first win of 2013. After 90 minutes plus stoppages, the Falcons once again failed to capitalise on their advantage in possession and chances to record a disappointing 2-0 loss. The Falcons had several chances particularly in the first half to put this game away but lack of composure in front of goal brought them undone. Two chances both from great cut backs from Stathi were missed by Bart and then Stathi himself hit the post with a fantastic shot from outside the box which had the NCW keeper beaten all ends up. On the other hand, NCW went forward a handful of times and one of those produced a goal which took them into half time 1-0 up. The second half was more subdued with neither side not really sparkling. The Falcons were again on top possession wise and through the middle part of the half pushed forward for the equaliser which nearly fell to Stathi again but he was unable to produce a good enough finish from close range. Then as has happened over the whole season, the Falcons were punished for poor defending when the NCW substitute beat three defenders and hit great shot passed Kosta for the sealer. Better players for the Falcons were Tommy Vizzini, Stevie and Stathi. RESERVES: The Falcons capitulated meekly again as they struggle to find any consistency of performance. The side seemed stronger on paper than previous weeks but as has been proved time and time again, games aren't won on paper but with effort and commitment. Coach Peter K is struggling to come up with a combination that will turn things around but he will continue to shuffle things around till he does so. Serviceable players were Diego, Peter Natsis and Tommy P who was excellent coming from the bench. JUNIOR NEWS 22nd May 2013 Week 5: U7 - Gala Day last Sunday was at Fawkner. Report to follow. U9 - vs Mitchell Ranges FC REPORT: U10 - vs Epping City REPORT: A trip to Epping City saw the young Falcons come with lots of support (courtesy of u13’s having no game and they still turned up with Falcons tracksuit top on) but low on players. There were 4 players missing which meant the game had to be played with 8 players in total and no subs. After the lack of concentration which was highlighted last week, it was great to see Andre captain the team to a very strong start where we showed plenty of leadership. Ari was outstanding in this regards in defence and was ably assisted by Maya and Alex and positional awareness which saw us look very dangerous going forwards. With Lulu, Lou and Christian bossing the midfield we had some really positive passages of play where we strung 3 and 4 passes together to get in behind the Epping defence with just a finish from Jules stopping us from being ahead on the scoreboard as well as ahead on the pitch. As the 2nd half started, the lack of subs started to show and we wilted in the heat and allowed Epping to score a couple of junk time goals. A very spirited performance which, a few small tactical errors aside, saw the coach leave a very happy man. Very positive signs and with a full team, I’m sure we would have recorded a well-deserved victory.
